Western Europe Hardcopy Installed Base Forecast, 2016–2020
IDC estimates that there were 21.0 million monochrome units and 10.2 million color units installed in 2015. The overall laser market installed base will remain relatively flat over the forecast period. It will remain larger than the installed base for business inkjets, and despite the rise of business inkjets, laser will remain the main choice for the office market.Another significant area of opportunity is the growth of digital production devices. These had a strong increase due to the spike of opportunities for print on demand (POD), variable data printing, and customers' need for short-run, cost-effective solutions. Areas of growth will be color cutsheet and continuous feed, high-speed inkjets, and digital presses."The market for hardcopy products is mature, and as a result, the overall installed base is unlikely to increase," said Phil Sargeant, program director, Imaging, Printing and Document Solutions, IDC EMEA. "Within this installed base, there are opportunities for business inkjets, color lasers, and production devices, which will all see increases in color page volumes of the traditional black and white page."
