The CIO as the Orchestrator of the Digital Enterprise
This IDC Perspective outlines the evolving role of the CIO in European organizations in a post-COVID-19 world. The new normal is all about managing business in unprecedented times of uncertainty and volatility. The level of organizational agility required to deal with this environment is only possible with a business model that is underpinned by technology across all processes, both internal and external facing. Hence, as we move into the next decade, technology leadership roles will need to be redefined, and entirely new roles will also be created. In particular, for the CIO, this implies a heightened sphere of influence."We see different types of CIO profiles in the industry that reflect how things were," said Duncan Brown, VP of Enterprise Research, IDC. "Moving forward, IDC predicts that 30% of organizations will define an entirely new technology leadership role that combines CIO, CTO, CDO, and heads of innovation leaders. And the expectation is that this new role will report into the CEO and the board, given the importance of technology in the future enterprise moving forward."
