Summary
Mining, manufacturing, and utilities contributed 27.0% to the gross value added (GVA) in 2024, followed by financial intermediation, real estate, and business activities (21.3%), and wholesale, retail, and hotel activities (11.5%). In nominal terms, the three sectors are expected to grow by 5.4%, 6.4%, and 9.2%, respectively, in 2025.
Three major cities in Slovakia accounted for 38.8% of the country’s population and contributed 52.1% of the total GDP in 2024, according to GlobalData’s cities database.
As of February 2025, a new rail corridor linking Slovakia with Port Esbjerg is projected to transform car transport logistics, allowing for the direct shipment of over 10,000 vehicles annually. The inaugural delivery successfully transported 240 cars, demonstrating the efficiency of a custom unloading ramp. This development will enhance Port Esbjerg’s role as a logistics hub, reducing reliance on road transport and optimizing vessel capacity for DFDS.
