Synopsis

Abstract

This IDC study examines the current state of alignment between learning and business strategy. It is paramount to a company's success that alignment exists between the training that is being delivered and the direction the company is taking. This study examines the current level of satisfaction among learning professionals with their current alignment strategy, details which inputs they are using to ensure alignment, and compares their perceived value of training with that of their senior executives.

Study participants consisted of 1,018 members of Chief Learning Officer magazine's Business Intelligence Board (BIB). Their responses provide guidance to learning alignment issues such as:

What are the key alignment challenges facing learning professionals today? What do learning professionals consider to be the ideal blend of alignment strategies? Where do learning professionals expect improvements in their alignment strategies to come from in the next 18 months?

"The desired product of the learning assessment is to achieve alignment between company business needs and training offerings," said Peter McStravick, senior research analyst, Learning Services. "Assessment, however, is only as good as the lines of visibility and communication that exist between the training division, CEO, senior executives, and individual lines of business."
