The Medina Metro Development Authority (MMDA) is undertaking the construction of Medina Metro Rail project in Saudi Arabia.
The project involves construction of a 95km metro railway network comprising 25km of underground and 48km of overhead lines and will be implemented in two phases.
It includes the construction of metro stations, platforms, administrative facility, the installation of signal and safety systems, the laying of rail tracks.
On March 13, 2015, Systra SA and Egis Group were awarded a 12-month study contract for the project’s three lines: green, blue and red.
The scope of work includes conducting feasibility studies and the preparation of preliminary designs for the metro, including the preparation of invitations to tender documentation for design and build contracts.
In April 2015, Louis Berger was appointed as the program management office consultant (PMOC) for the development of Medina’s public transport network that includes the Medina Metro Rail.
In May 2015, a joint venture of Khatib & Alami and Istanbul Ulasim won the consultancy services contract for the project whose scope of work includes to prepare the feasibility study, architectural design, static and electromechanical works, as well as preparing the tender documents for the construction and consultancy of the project.
In August 2016, project plans were approved by Public Transport in Medina. The project will be implemented in public private partnership (PPP) mode.
