The Department of Transport (DoT), Victoria is planning to construct the North East Link road project in Victoria, Australia.
The project involves the construction of road link between Metropolitan Ring Road in Greensborough and the Eastern Freeway in Bulleen.
The project includes the construction of bridge over the freeway and ramps giving access in all directions, interchanges, a tunnel between Lower Plenty Road and the Eastern Freeway, under the Yarra River and Banyule flats reserve and related facilities.
In February 2012, the process of reviewing the project as part of the Metropolitan Planning Strategy was initiated.
In February 2016, two major Victorian transport bodies, the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) and the RACV urged the State Government to prioritize the project.
In April 2016, the State Government unveiled Victorian Budget and failed to make a commitment to the North East Link.
On April 26, 2017, the Victorian Government has allocated US$75 million as part of 2017–18 Budget. The government funding will cover the cost of geotechnical investigations, design, environmental and social studies of the project.
Planning and engineering works are anticipated to be completed in 2018, with contracts slated to be signed in 2019.
Construction works are expected to commence in 2019.
