BMM Ispat Ltd (BMM) is undertaking the Expansion of a Hospet Steel Manufacturing Plant at Hospet, Karnataka, India.
The project involves the expansion of an existing steel manufacturing facility with a capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum. It includes the construction of a production unit, a fabrication unit, warehouses, a blast furnace and other related infrastructure and the installation of fire safety equipment and machinery.
Apart from steel manufacturing expansion, BMM will expand the existing 235MW power plant to 675MW.
In June 2012, BMM signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government of Karnataka for the project.
In June 2016, BMM has informed the ministry of steel that their project is being delayed that they have not been handed over the land that was allotted to them by the Government of Karnataka.
On April 5, 2017, BMM issued a final acceptance certificate (FAC) to Primetals Technologies for the supply and installation of an electric steel plant and merchant bar mill.
Planning activities are underway. Construction works are scheduled to commence in October 2017.
