Chile - Mobile Infrastructure, Broadband, Operators - Statistics and Analyses
Chile's mobile penetration is one of the highest in South America, and as a result growth has slowed considerably. Movistar and Entel are the market leaders with a similar market share, while Claro accounts for about 24% of the market. There are a number of smaller MVNOs which together have 3% of the market.
Mobile number portability has helped to increase competition and reduce prices for consumers. Of the MVNOs, Falabella Movil and Virgin Mobile are the two largest, while Nextel Chile was sold in mid-2014 by NII Holdings.
All three MNOs had launched LTE networks by 2014, and in late 2015 trials provided data at up to 2050Mb/s.
The sale of smartphones in increasing rapidly, driven by the popularity of social media and improved 3G and LTE coverage, as well as by the reduction in the price of devices.
