Western Europe Application Life-Cycle Services Forecast, 2017-2021
Automation, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) are three of the biggest influences in the application services market today. Application services providers must build out IP and tools to drive further automation and intelligence into application services (from development through to maintenance activities). Providers need to become more reactive, flexible, and innovative in deal making and service delivery to excel. This is highlighted in our most recent European Services Survey, where a third of European enterprises consider it very important for their application outsourcing partners to integrate cognitive and machine intelligence within an application outsourcing engagement. This IDC study analyzes the drivers of and barriers to application services and presents IDC's forecasts of end-user spending in application-related IT consulting, development, systems integration, technology outsourcing, and support and training services. The market for application services reached $69.2 billion in 2016. Growth will pick up over the forecast period to reach $78.4 billion in 2021 with a 2.5% CAGR for 2016–2021."The application services market in Europe continues to show solid opportunities over the forecast period. Mobility management, cognitive insight, next-generation automation, and cloud are key drivers in application services engagements today. However, success is not just related to a provider's technical skills or capability — but is also very much about re-inventing its talent, partner, and delivery models," said Jennifer Thomson, research director, IDC European Services.
