Smart buildings help achieve different outcomes for its users. Although the main value driver for industry buildings is cost and energy savings, it is customer experience for hotels and both for hospitals. Internet of things (IoT)–enabled smart building solutions help in generating these outcomes while providing a safe, efficient living environment to its occupants. "A smart building helps promote an environment in which residents benefit from the proactive monitoring of lifts/escalators, personalized digital signage, integrated parking with sensors, and/or directions to free parking spots along with the seamless functioning of a building that has a robust security plan in place," says Shaily Shah, research manager, internet of things, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Vendors that can help optimize building efficiencies while reducing service downtime and monitoring and reduce energy consumption patterns are popular in the smart building solution space in the region," she adds.
