This study analyzes the network equipment spending (capex) and total capital expenditures (CAPEX) in the region in both fixed-line and mobile networks. Mobile network spending represents roughly 66–67% of the total network equipment spending in the region, as leading mobile network operators (MNOs) in each market ramped up their LTE investments between 2013 and 2015. "As the industry accelerates the standardization of the 5G new radio interface, MNOs in advanced markets will be testing and making plans to incorporate virtualization and software-defined networking in the packet core, OSS, optical transport networks, and RAN. Emerging market operators will be focused on their overall business model with emphasis on mobile data and fixed data services," said Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
