Abstract

This IDC study presents a cluster analysis of our 2005 U.S. Consumer Digital Imaging Survey. The survey focuses on key consumer imaging processes including archive, enhance, email, print, online sharing, and instant messaging. Clusters were formed based on high use of processes. The following questions are answered:

How many clusters make up the digital camera market? What are the specific processes that each cluster utilizes? To which clusters should photography vendors focus on selling new solutions?

"Today, the photo market places great emphasis on traditional photo print processes. This cluster analysis demonstrates that although capture to print is a utilized process, a large portion of respondents do very little with their images." - Ron Glaz, IDC program director, Digital Imaging Solutions and Services
