Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) is planning to expand the Sacramento Light Rail from Green line to Sacramento Airport in California, the US.

The project involves the extension of 21km light rail from Green line to Sacramento Airport and is planned to be implemented in phases.

It includes the construction of stations, platforms and administrative buildings, the laying of railway tracks and the installation of safety and security systems.

The first phase of the project envisaged the construction of a 1.7km light rail from Sacramento Valley Station to Richards Boulevard and 7th Street at the Township 9 development with two stations, which was completed in June 2012.

The development team of first phase includes Stacy and Witbeck, Inc as design-build contractor; 4LEAF Inc. as project management consultant (PMC); Quality Engineering, Inc. as quality control consultant; and Geocon, Inc. as geotechnical design and construction supervision consultant.

The further phase includes the construction of light rail from Township 9 to Sacramento International Airport.

The US$110 million funding is expected through annual operating expenses of California and the remaining from state and federal funding.

AIM Consulting, Inc. has been appointed as Consulting Engineer.

In December 2016, RT is in process of seeking funds. Construction works are expected to commence in 2020 and be completed by 2025.
