Qatar Railways Company (QRAIL) is planning to undertake the construction of the freight railway line as part of the Qatar Rail Integrated Network project in Qatar.
The project involves the construction of a 325km of freight railway of which 270km will also be used by passenger services and will be linked to the planned GCC network services.
On August 28, 2008, Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company (Qatari Diar) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Germany-based Deutsche Bahn International to set up the project basis and develop conceptual design for integrating Qatar's various planned railways into a comprehensive and consolidated national railway system.
DB International (DBI), the global wing of Deutsche Bahn, and Qatari Diar developed the plan for an integrated rail-based transport network, which also includes freight rail routes.
The project is still in early stages of development. The project is facing delay, due to the uncertainty over the planned GCC rail network.
The project involves the construction of a 325km freight railway network in Doha, Qatar.
