Refrigerant R32 is a difluoromethane (CH₂F₂) refrigerant with a boiling point of -51.7°C, a critical temperature of 78.1°C, and a GWP (global warming potential) of 675. It is widely used in air conditioners and heat pumps. It has excellent thermodynamic properties (cooling capacity>200 kJ/kg), a pressure of 1-3 MPa, and supports high-efficiency refrigeration (COP>4.5). For example, in household air conditioners, R32 improves energy efficiency (>10%) compared to R410A; in industrial heat pumps, it maintains efficiency (>3.5) at low temperature operation (-20°C). Production must pass purity testing (>99.9%) and safety analysis (flammability A2L level, leak-proof design required).

The advantages of R32 are high efficiency and low GWP, and supporters believe that it provides a transitional solution for environmentally friendly refrigerants. For example, its low charge (<0.5 kg/kW) reduces the risk of leakage; high heat exchange efficiency reduces energy consumption. However, critics point out that it is slightly flammable (burning speed<10 cm/s), requiring safety design (increasing costs); it may decompose at high temperatures (>500°C, generating HF); in addition, recycling is complicated (special equipment is required), which may cause environmental pollution.

In the future, R32 may pay more attention to safety and substitution. The development of low flammability mixtures (GWP target<500) and efficient recycling technology (recycling rate >95%) may enhance its application; its potential in the refrigeration field includes supporting ultra-low temperature systems (-50°C) and green buildings (energy efficiency >5.0). However, the industry needs to address the challenges of safety hazards (target burning speed<5 cm/s) and decomposition control (target temperature<400°C).
