A gas flowmeter is an instrument designed to measure the flow rate of gases. It can accurately determine the volume or mass of gas passing through a specific point within a given time. For example, thermal mass flowmeters utilize the principle of heat transfer between the gas and a heated element. As the gas flows, it absorbs heat from the heated element, and the amount of heat absorbed is related to the gas flow rate. Vortex shedding flowmeters work by generating vortices when the gas passes around a bluff body. The frequency of these vortices is proportional to the gas velocity, which can then be used to calculate the flow rate. Ultrasonic flowmeters measure the time difference of ultrasonic waves traveling in the gas flow, either upstream or downstream, to determine the gas velocity and thus the flow rate.
