Acetaldehyde Oxime is an important organic compound with a chemical formula of C₂H₅NO and a molecular weight of 59.07. It has two crystalline forms: α-type with a melting point of 46.5°C and β-type with a melting point of 12°C. Acetaldehyde Oxime is a white to light yellow crystalline solid or liquid with a slightly pungent odor and is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. In terms of chemical properties, acetaldehyde oxime can be decomposed into acetaldehyde and hydroxylamine under acidic conditions, is hygroscopic, and is unstable under strong acid or strong base conditions. As a reducing agent, acetaldehyde oxime has a wide range of uses in organic synthesis, such as reacting with nitrile compounds in the presence of a catalyst to form amides.
Acetaldehyde oxime is mainly used in organic synthesis, pesticide intermediates, metal surface treatment, rubber vulcanization accelerators and analytical reagents. It is a key intermediate in the synthesis of the pesticides Methomyl and Thiodicarb. In addition, acetaldehyde oxime is also used as a boiler water deoxidizer, and its deoxidation effect is 40 times that of traditional hydrazine hydrate. The production of acetaldehyde oxime is usually prepared by the reaction of hydroxylamine and acetaldehyde, and the reaction equation is: CH₃CHO + NH₂OH·HCl + NaOH → CH₃CH=NOH + NaCl + H₂O. In industrial production, hydroxylamine sulfate is often used as a raw material to prepare a 20%~50% aqueous solution and then react with acetaldehyde.
In terms of storage and transportation, acetaldehyde oxime should be sealed and stored in a cool and ventilated environment to avoid contact with oxidants, acids and edible chemicals. Its storage temperature should not exceed 30°C, and explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities should be used. During transportation, acetaldehyde oxime is classified as a flammable liquid and relevant safety regulations must be strictly observed. Acetaldehyde oxime has an important position in the chemical industry due to its high reactivity and low toxicity, and is widely used in many fields.
