Economy of Romania - 2026
Description
Romania is a transition economy having abandoned the Soviet Central Planning system in 1990. It's first decade up to 2000 was characterised by a sharp economic contraction accompanied by high inflation. However, since the Millennium it has turned things around and has now caught up with Portugal and passed Greece in living standards. It's star sectors are car making and IT outsourcing. Dual concerns are the current a/c deficit and the budget deficit, both around 8% of GDP.
