Volatile digital potentiometers are primarily used in applications where the resistance value needs to be changed frequently, such as audio equipment, light dimmers, etc. Volatile digital potentiometers have the advantages of lower cost, faster response, and lower power consumption than non-volatile digital potentiometers, but they also require more control logic and additional power management measures.
