A nanoporous core made of fumed silica powder — an extremely fine, high-surface-area silica.
A sealed, high-barrier envelope with a vacuum inside — which removes air to block heat transfer by conduction and convection.
Because of this design, a Fumed Silica VIP can have a thermal conductivity as low as 0.003–0.005 W/(m·K) — about 5 to 10 times better than conventional insulation materials like PU foam or fiberglass wool.
