RTK is a technology used to improve the accuracy of standalone GNSS receivers. Traditional GNSS receivers, such as those in smartphones, can only determine an accuracy of 2-4 meters (7-13 feet). RTK can provide centimeter-level accuracy. RTK uses two receivers. One is fixed and the other is free to move. They are called base station and rover. The base station's task is to stay in one location and send correction information to the moving receiver. The rover uses this data to achieve centimeter-level accurate positioning. Any number of rovers can be connected to the same base station as long as the input settings match the output of the base station. There are two types of receivers: single-band (L1) and multi-band (L1/L2 or above). The difference between them is the amount of data they can receive from satellites. Single-band has a maximum baseline of 10 kilometers, and multi-band has a maximum baseline of 60 kilometers. Multi-band receivers are also more stable in terms of sky observation. It can maintain centimeter-level accuracy even when measuring in challenging environments such as forests, cities, mines, quarries, etc. RTK base station (Real-Time Kinematic Base Station) is a device used for real-time dynamic differential positioning. It receives global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals, calculates differential data and transmits it to mobile stations (such as drones, surveying and mapping equipment, etc.) in real time to eliminate satellite positioning errors and achieve centimeter-level or even millimeter-level high-precision positioning. It is a high-precision positioning technology product and is widely used in surveying and mapping, agriculture, engineering and other fields.
