Global Interlayer Films Market Growth 2026-2032
Description
The global Interlayer Films market size is predicted to grow from US$ 631 million in 2025 to US$ 994 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.7% from 2026 to 2032.
In 2025, global Interlayer film production reached approximately 35.8 m sqm, the average price is 18 usd/sqm. Interlayer film usually refers to the transparent polymer material layer used to bond two or more layers of glass in laminated glass, the most common is polyvinyl butyral (PVB) film. It makes glass difficult to shatter and splash when impacted, and provides sound insulation, heat insulation, anti-ultraviolet and other functions, widely used in buildings, automobile windows and other fields.
Market Concentration and Key Players:
Internationally, the market concentration of intermediate film is relatively high, mainly concentrated in developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan. For example, large manufacturers such as Eastman and Sekisui Chemical; from a domestic perspective, intermediate film manufacturers include Anhui Wanwei Group and Jiaxing Weilian New Materials.
Manufacturing Processes and Market Trends:
The core of the manufacturing process of the intermediate film is casting molding. Taking the mainstream PVB film as an example, the basic raw material PVB resin needs to be mixed with plasticizers and other additives at high temperature to form a uniform viscoelastic body, and then plasticized by an extruder and extruded through a die slit to form an initial film. The film is immediately given a specific surface rough texture by an embossing roller, which is very important for its degassing performance in the production of laminated glass. The film with patterns then enters a cooling roller to be rapidly cooled and shaped. The whole process needs to be carried out in a clean environment and the temperature and tension are strictly controlled, and the obtained intermediate film needs to be stored under constant temperature and humidity conditions to prevent moisture absorption and agglomeration.
The market trend is developing from a single safety function to high performance and versatility. The pursuit of energy saving and consumption reduction in the construction and automobile industries has driven the rapid growth of demand for special intermediate films such as heat insulation, sound insulation and dimming. At the same time, under the background of the popularization of new energy vehicles and the expansion of integrated photovoltaic building applications, intermediate films are facing higher requirements in terms of lightweight, high strength and durability. The tightening of environmental regulations has also prompted the development of lead-free and sustainable materials to become the focus of the industry. The overall market continues to expand under the dual drive of innovative applications and green upgrades.
