Description

The global Fluorine-Based Grease market size is predicted to grow from US$ 589 million in 2025 to US$ 1050 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 6.9% from 2026 to 2032.

Global sales of fluorine-based grease reached 2,064 tons in 2025, with an average price of US$292 per kilogram.

Fluorinated lubricants are special grade synthetic lubricants, which possess superior properties as compared to petroleum based lubricants. Most of the petroleum based lubricants fail to perform under –18 °C and above 100 °C; the fluorinated lubricants can effectively perform between –90°C and 300 °C. Apart from extensive temperature endurance, significant endurance under high load conditions, hydrophobic nature, chemical inertness, oxidation resistant, etc. are some other important properties of fluorinated lubricants. Fluorinated lubricants are available as both oil and grease. This report mainly studies fluorine-based grease market.

Global key players of Fluorine-Based Grease include Syensqo, Chemours, ICAN, DuPont, Kluber Lubrication, etc. The top five players hold a share about 84%. Asia-Pacific is the largest market, and has a share about 35%, followed by Europe and North America with share 30% and 28%, separately. In terms of product type, Perfluoropolyether Grease is the largest segment, occupied for a share of 88%. In terms of application, Aerospace has a share about 25 percent.

The raw material system of fluorine-based grease is characterized by high technological barriers and high value density. The core base oil, perfluoropolyether (PFPE), is produced from fluorinated monomers such as tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) through a precise polymerization process. This production process requires free radical polymerization in a high-pressure reactor, making it extremely technically demanding. Thickener systems typically use PTFE powder or special fluorinated polymers; some high-end products also add functional fillers such as special spherical particles to enhance extreme pressure performance. Regarding additives, due to the excellent chemical inertness and thermal stability of PFPE itself, antioxidants or extreme pressure agents are usually unnecessary. However, UV tracers or conductive/insulating modifiers may be added in specific applications.

In terms of cost structure, fluorine-based grease is a high-end lubricant product dominated by raw materials. PFPE base oil accounts for 60-75% of production costs, and its price is significantly affected by the supply of fluorite resources, hydrofluoric acid and TFE monomers in the upstream of the fluorochemical industry chain; thickeners and functional fillers account for 15-25%; and manufacturing processes such as precision mixing, ultra-clean filtration and quality testing account for 10-15%.
