Global Continuous Electrodeionization Systems (CEDI) Market Growth 2026-2032
Description
The global Continuous Electrodeionization Systems (CEDI) market size is predicted to grow from US$ 1095 million in 2025 to US$ 1552 million in 2032; it is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2026 to 2032.
Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) is a water treatment technology used to remove ions, dissolved salts and other impurities from water. It is developed on the basis of ion exchange and electroadsorption technology. CEDI systems usually consist of a series of alternating cation exchange membranes and anion exchange membranes with electrodes sandwiched between the two membranes. As water flows through the spaces between these membranes and electrodes, an electric field is applied to drive the migration of ions. In the CEDI system, cations in the water will migrate from the water to the anion exchange membrane, and anions will migrate from the water to the cation exchange membrane. Through the action of the electric field, cations and anions are driven to corresponding electrodes respectively, thereby removing the ions from the water. At the same time, impurities and microorganisms will also be isolated between membranes to achieve water purification. CEDI systems offer many advantages over traditional ion exchange technology. First, CEDI systems do not require regenerants or chemicals, thus avoiding the need for regeneration processes and waste disposal. Secondly, the CEDI system can operate continuously without shutting down or changing columns, which improves processing efficiency and stability. In addition, the CEDI system can provide water with high purity and low ion concentration, and has the advantages of easy operation and small footprint.
The Continuous Electrodeionization (CEDI) systems market is characterized by growing demand across high-purity water applications, particularly in the pharmaceutical, power generation, and microelectronics industries. As industries increasingly prioritize sustainable and chemical-free water treatment solutions, CEDI technology is gaining traction due to its ability to provide consistent water quality with lower operational costs compared to traditional ion exchange methods. Technological advancements and integration with reverse osmosis systems are further enhancing efficiency, driving adoption globally. The market is also influenced by regulatory pressures and corporate sustainability goals, which are encouraging investment in environmentally friendly water purification technologies.
