A Parallel Flow Heat Exchanger is a type of heat exchanger in which two fluids (typically a hot fluid and a cold fluid) enter the exchanger at the same end and flow in the same direction—parallel to each other—through the device. Heat transfer occurs as the fluids move side by side, with thermal energy flowing from the hotter fluid to the cooler one. In this configuration, the temperature difference between the fluids is greatest at the inlet and decreases along the flow path. As a result, parallel flow designs typically have lower thermal efficiency compared to counterflow configurations, since the temperature gradient diminishes as the fluids equilibrate.
