Worldwide Web Conferencing Applications Market Shares, 2021: Connecting to the Video Evolution
This IDC study examines the vendor revenue performance in the web conferencing applications market for 2021.In 2021, web conferencing (videoconferencing) vendors escalated features to better connect us, make us feel more connected, make calls more equitable and more productive and, to some extent, help us feel less exhausted at the end of the day. While conferencing outside of work was accepted, it became the norm inside the enterprise as work itself became hybrid, supporting "work from anywhere." The market is poised to adopt features that lead to xReality and Metaverse solutions that tie to emerging metrics and customer outcomes. "2021 saw the expansion of multiple paid conferencing applications in the enterprise, as well as the expansion of who was connected with videoconferencing solutions at work," according to Wayne Kurtzman, research director, Social and Collaboration at IDC. "Videoconferencing connected us in new ways in 2020, and 2021 saw improved representation, screen equity, intelligence supporting better audio and visuals, and collaborative abilities. Conferencing applications, and for that matter all collaborative applications, are core to digitally transforming work and business opportunities. A well-executed collaboration stack results in better personal and group productivity, faster time to market, a better employee experience, a better customer experience and, at its best, a sense of community."
