Worldwide Smartphone Market Shares, 2022: A Painful Year for Smartphones

This IDC study examines the market share of the major vendors in the worldwide smartphone market in 2022."Throughout 2022, we continued to witness consumer demand fade as refresh rates climbed well past 40 months in most major markets," said Anthony Scarsella, research director with IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. "With 2022 declining more than 11% for the year, 2023 is set up to be a year of caution as vendors will rethink their portfolio of devices while channels will think twice before taking on excess inventory. However, on a positive note, we have seen the performance of foldables increase over the past year. Foldables grew 74% in 2022 and are forecast to grow 51% in 2023 as consumer interest starts to elevate in developed markets.
