IDC defines connected vehicles as vehicles that contain software, hardware, and connectivity. This study provides an estimate of the connected vehicle software market spending in 2017 and a forecast from 2018 to 2022. "Automotive OEMs are planning the shift toward becoming mobility services platform providers and will develop data-driven services involving various service partners. To add value to their services and differentiate themselves from other competitors, automotive OEMs and service partners will increase spending on data management/analysis software, on IT-infrastructure-related software to support the increase in data types and volumes, on cognitive/AI systems in order to generate useful insights, and also on security software," says Ko Shikita, research manager, Communications, IDC Japan.
