Internet of Things Vehicle-To-Everything Infrastructure Overview and the Path to Intelligent Connected Vehicles in Asia/Pacific
This IDC Market Perspective posits that vehicle to everything (V2X), when combined with increasing levels of automated driving, has the potential to play a central role in the future of intelligent connected vehicles (ICVs) in Asia/Pacific to reduce congestion, conserve fuel through optimized efficiency, enhance safety, and create new digital services in transportation. Although autonomous driving will negate the need for V2X infrastructure in other regions, IDC believes that Asia/Pacific, which is led by the People's Republic of China (PRC), Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia, will capitalize on the excellent and expanding coverage of sub-6GHz and millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G New Radio (NR) to provide V2X roadside units (RSUs) and other types of infrastructure, such as artificial intelligence (AI)–enabled video analytics using video streams form traffic corners and roads."The digital transformation (DX) of vehicle transportation and other forms of transport, such as railways, will be facilitated by the timetables of 5G deployments and 5G basestation density," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Moreover, the role of edge compute cannot be understated because AI technologies will need to be provided with low latencies and high reliability. This fits well with the fiber plus 5G NR infrastructure foundation," he adds.
