What Is an Agentic AI Platform?
Description
This IDC Perspective defines a new software market category — agentic AI platforms — that has emerged in late 2025 and one that IDC expects will fundamentally reshape the enterprise technology landscape over the next five years. These platforms will help organizations build, operate, govern, and orchestrate AI agents. The market is bifurcating into two distinct platform types: domain-specific platforms targeted more at mainstream users (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio and Agent 365, Salesforce Agentforce, Google Gemini Enterprise, and ServiceNow AI Control Tower) and custom platforms offering maximum flexibility for technical teams (e.g., Microsoft AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock AgentCore, Google Vertex AI Agent Builder, and LangChain)."Agentic AI platforms are emerging as a strategic enterprise software category that will reshape the technology landscape over the next five years," said Philip Carter, GVP and GM for AI, Data, and Automation Research at IDC. " Enterprises must choose a platform strategy aligned to their maturity and use cases, stand up strong governance and cost controls early, and design for multiagent orchestration."
