Europe portable generator market size reached around USD 590.66 Million in 2024. The market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 5.10% between 2025 and 2034 to reach nearly USD 971.33 Million by 2034.
Europe Portable Generator Market Growth
The rise in tourism across Europe is propelling the portable generator demand growth in the region, as they are an ideal choice for outdoor activities such as camping, festivals and remote locations. Additionally, high-powered portable generators can not only provide long-lasting and reliable power supply but can also be used to operate multiple light fixtures, heavy sound systems, and large appliances often found in such events.
As per industry reports, 62% of EU residents made at least one personal tourism trip in 2022, led by Spain which was the most popular destination for international tourists accounting for more than 271 million nights spent in tourist accommodation, equivalent to 22% of the region’s total share. As the share grows further owing to rapid urbanisation of European countries and the mordernisation of top tourist destinations, the demand for portable generators shall witness a sharp surge.
Key Trends and Recent Developments
Rising electricity consumption, frequent power outages, and the growing popularity of dual fuel generators are increasing the Europe portable generator market value.
September 2024
Bobcat launched new PG40 and PG50 portable generators powered by Stage V D24 engines and Stamford alternators. They replaced the previous generation Stage IIIA G40 and G60 models with improved output and reduced fuel consumption. Also, both generators had a lightweight and compact design, with advanced features such as optional factory-mounted running gear and ‘Liquid Heat’, a low-load management system.
May 2024
Trime launched a range of portable diesel-powered generators with an output capacity ranging between 6kVA to 670kVA. Their features were akin to powerful and popular diesel engines in the market such as Kohler Stage V, Yanmar, FPT Iveco and Perkins. According to the company officials, the generators were best suited for the United Kingdom and Ireland power rental markets as they were ultra-silent, reliable, and compact in design.
March 2022
Yanmar upgraded its YDG series of portable generators to meet the EU Stage-V emission standards and launch them in the region’s growing construction market. The series comprised two models, YDG3700 and two YDG5500 manufactured entirely in Europe. They were equipped with an electric starter version and air-cooled L-type engines to provide power outputs ranging between 3.3 and 5.8kVA.
January 2021
Atlas Copco launched two new inverter power generators, P2000i and P3500i, for Europe’s power rental market. The inverter conveniently converted the first high voltage multi-phase AC power to clean AC predictable power at the required voltage and frequency. To increase efficiency, they used advanced electronics and magnets. Also, as they were designed for daily use, they had easy recoil start function for quick activation and low fuel consumption for cost-effectiveness.
Rising Electricity Consumption is Propelling the Market Growth
The increased electricity consumption in Europe is a key driver for the growth of Europe portable generator market. According to the International Energy Association (IEA), the per capita electricity consumption in Europe was 5.744 MWh/capita in 2022, which was 68% higher than the global average. This indicates a high demand for reliable and uninterrupted power supply in the region, making portable generators an ideal source of backup or additional power during shortage events.
Frequent Power Outages is Increasing the Demand of Portable Generators
Frequent power outage events due to ageing power infrastructure and harsh weather conditions is fuelling the Europe portable generator market. These outages often extend for a longer period of time, affecting wide areas and disrupting daily business operations as well as household activities. For instance, in one of the recent power outage events that occurred on June 21st, 2024, the entire Continental Europe including large parts extending through countries such as Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia, Herzegovina and Croatia suffered a total blackout for more than an hour, thus, causing electrical disruptions and an urgent need for reliable alternative power backup source.
Popularity of Dual Fuel Portable Generators is a Key Trend of Europe Portable Generator Market
The need for cost-effective power supply has propelled the demand for dual fuel portable generators which can be powered using multiple sources. These may include gasoline, liquid propane, or renewable energies such as solar or wind. Such generators not only provide the flexibility of switching fuel sources based on price standards but are also ideal for remote locations where fuel shortages and unavailability are frequent events. Realising their growing demand and revenue generating potential, major players in Europe portable generator market are increasingly investing in their developments. For instance, EcoFlow, which holds a sizeable market share in Europe, launched a new dual fuel generator in December 2022, which operated on standard gas as well as propane.
Growing Environmental Concerns is Increasing the Adoption of Portable Generators Fuelled by Renewable Sources
As per the Europe portable generator market analysis, growing environmental concerns are increasing the adoption of portable generators powered by renewable energy sources to reduce carbon footprint of manufacturers, eco conscious customers as well as the government. European markets are witnessing an influx of such generators leading to its long-term stability and sustainability, besides revenue growth. In a similar effort, Jackery, a leading portable generator manufacturer, introduced solar portable generator 1500 in February 2023 that earned the title “The Apple of Solar Generators” owing to its high output capacity worth 1800 watts.
Europe Portable Generator Market Trends
International Entrants are Increasing the Scope of Portable Generator Market Expansion in Europe
Europe portable generator market growth is significantly being driven by the entry of international players who bring in new products with enhanced features and advanced integrated technologies providing a wide range of options to customers at competitive prices. For instance, in March 2022, Japan-based industrial giant Honda, commercially launched EU32i, its new portable generator operated by Sine Wave inverter in Europe, known to produce 3.2 kVA output. Such high-performance products are solidifying the region's position as a dynamic and competitive marketplace for portable generators.
