The Western Cape Government (WCG) and Western Cape Fine Food Initiative (WCFFI) are planning to build an agri-processing plant in Western Cape, South Africa.

The project involves the construction of a halaal agri-processing plant. It includes the construction of control rooms, processing units, storage units, administrative space and related facilities, and the installation of equipment and machinery.

On July 27, 2015, WCG and WCFFI entered into a partnership to develop the project.

In March 2016, WCG issued tender to deliver a detailed two-phase feasibility study, a second tender had also been issued for the mapping of the halal industry’s full value chain.

In December 2016, first phase feasibility study on the project was completed that includes initial screening of 19 potential sites across the province.

Second phase feasibility study activities on the project are underway that includes an in-depth study into three short-listed sites, at Cape Town International Airport, Klapmuts and Lynedoch. Construction works are scheduled to be completed by 2020.
