Valley Metro Rail Inc (VMRI or METRO) is undertaking the construction of a light rail extension in Arizona, the US.
The project involves the construction of a new light rail transit system. It will include a new rail way line, stations and other related infrastructure facilities, the installation of signaling units and electric lines, and the laying tracks.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will include the construction of a 5.14km extension that will extend light rail north on 19th Avenue from Montebello to Dunlap Avenue.
The second phase will include the construction of a 7.4km extending from the end-of-line at 19th Avenue and Montebello Avenue to 25th Avenue and Mountain View Road, Glendale. Construction work is expected to commence in 2023 and complete by 2026.
The authorities have engaged Steve Greene & Associates PLLC, to manage, administer, operate, and maintain the NorthWest Extension Project.
In 2012, the project received approval. On January 12, 2013, construction work on the first phase commenced and in the third quarter of 2013, study work commenced on second phase.
In March 2016, construction work on the first phase and study activities on second phase were completed.
In June 2016, conceptual engineering activities are underway, with environmental analysis scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2016.
In October 2016, planning activities on second phase are underway.
In May 2017, VMRI is currently completing an Environmental Assessment and expects to receive an environmental decision document in October 2017.
Construction work on the second phase is expected to be completed by 2023.
