Urban Civil Construction Investment Company (UCCI) along with HCMC Department Of Traffic & Public Works, is planning to undertake the construction of a BRT project in Vietnam.
The project involves the construction of 23.5km route from Vo Van Kiet Avenue to Mai Chi Tho Road.
It will include the construction of 28 stations, a waiting lounge, pedestrian ways, four depots, two transit areas, maintenance area and access roads, and the installation of traffic signaling system and overhead sign structures.
MVA Asia Limited has been appointed as study consultant.
In October 2012, HCM City People’s Committee has assigned the Investment and Construction Board of the Thu Thiem new urban area to work with the Vietnam Infrastructure Development and Finance Investment Joint Stock Company (VIDFI) to complete all technical designs and procedures of the project.
The tenders were invited for the lead consultant and February 10, 2014 as the last dead line for the submission of tenders.
The project is being funded by World Bank, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and a grant from Project Preparation Technical Assistance Facility (PPTAF).
In September 2014, feasibility work on the project was completed.
In June 2015, International Development Association (IDA) a member of World Bank group approved US$124 million loan.
In October 2016, apart from IDA credit, Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV) will finance the remaining investment of US$13.45 million. The IDA credit will have a maturity of 25 years, including a grace period of five years.
Planning activities are underway. Construction work is expected to commence in August 2018 with completion scheduled in 2019.
