The project involves the construction of a mixed-use facility on 20ha of land and is being implemented in stages. It includes the construction of around 757 apartments i a 7-story, 220-room five-star hotel and 102 serviced apartments, 35,000m2 retail facilities, parking and other related facilities, the installation of elevators, safety and security systems.

The first stage includes the construction of Westin Coolum Resort & Spa with conference facilities, serviced apartments and residential dwellings, shops and cafes.

Sekisui submitted the development plans of the project to the council in the first quarter of 2015.

On April 28, 2015, The Sunshine Coast Regional Council rejected the development plans for the project.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide has signed an agreement with Sekisui House Australia to plan and operate The Westin Coolum Resort and Spa as part of the mixed-use development.

In May 2017, Sekisui has lodged two planning applications with the council.
