Shanghai Zendai Property (SZP), a subsidiary Zendai Development South Africa (ZDSA), is undertaking the construction of Modderfontein New City Development project in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The project involves the construction of a mixed-use complex on 1,600ha land.
The project includes the construction of 35,000 to 50,000 houses, 10 hotels, 10 shopping centers, a sports stadium, an educational center and community offices, parking, churches, a library, hospital and medical facilities, Long Lake Gateway, a sports and international conference centre, a light industrial park and other related facilities.
The development will be funded by Zendai, the Export-Import Bank of China and the China Development Bank.
Atkins Global and Arup has been appointed as technical consultants. Atkins’s scope included the strategic and operational framework for the development, including land-uses, sustainability practices, spatial planning and design, while Arup’s scope covered services and infrastructure master planning, as well as traffic impact assessments.
Technicrete ISG was awarded the contract to supply DZZ interlocking paving blocks and kerbs for the Centenary road expansion in Modderfontein and ProBuild as construction contractor for the Centenary road expansion.
In December 2014, construction works commenced on road infrastructure and the first set of 300 residential units.
In September 2015, SZP launched a residential development within the project called "The Centenary", spread on 12ha of land with 300 units in its first phase.
In January 2016, construction works on The Centenary commenced.
On August 5, 2016, ZDSA invited sealed tenders for experienced consultants, contractors and suppliers to build the project with submission deadline as August 31, 2016.
Construction works are underway on The Centenary and entire project is expected to be completed by 2030.
