STEAG GmbH is undertaking the construction of a combined cycle power plant in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany.
The project involves the construction of a combined cycle power plant with capacity of 570MW. It includes the construction of a cooling tower, a chimney, power houses, substations, switch rooms and related facilities and the installation of gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, gas pipelines and lining of transmission lines.
The company planned to demolish the old power plant at the Chempark site for the new development. The company started pre-construction activities of the project in the fourth quarter of 2012, which is expected to complete by the end of 2013.
In March 2013, Cologne District authorities examine the already submitted planning application and approved plans for the project.
In March 2014, Repower was shortlisted preferred bidders to GE Germany a subsidiary of General Electric (GE)/Iberdrola Ingeniería y Construccion consortium to build and the installation of turbines.
GE Germany is to maintain the gas and steam turbines. Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG has been appointed as the steam supply contractor for the project.
In January 2015, the EPC contract was awarded to Iberdrola Ingeniería y Construccion and gas turbine supply and installation contract was awarded to General Electric Deutschland Holding GMBH, a subsidiary of General Electric.
GE will supply 9HA gas turbine for the project.
In May 2015, STEAG GmbH acquired the project from Repower Deutschland (Repower).
The project is awaiting a building permit.
