SSE Generation Ltd (SSE), a subsidiary of SSE plc, is planning to undertake the construction of a combined cycle gas power plant project in Munster, Ireland.
The project involves the construction of a 450MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant on a 10ha area and is planned to be implemented in two phases.
The first phase includes the construction of a 305MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) power facility, which will be fired on natural gas. Three of the four existing HFO Fired Units will be decommissioned once the OCGT is commissioned.
The second phase includes the construction of a 145MW OCGT to a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power facility. The final fourth existing HFO Fired Unit will be decommissioned once the CCGT is commissioned.
Mott MacDonald has been appointed as environmental consultant for the project.
In June 2011, Endesa obtained necessary approvals from the concern authorities for the project.
In June 2012, the project was acquired by SSE from Endesa Ireland Ltd.
Planning activities are underway and the plant is scheduled to be operational in 2022.
The project involves the construction of 450MW gas powered power plant on a 10ha area at Tarbert in Kerry County, Munster, Ireland.
The US$657 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of 305MW OCGT plant under the first phase
2. Construction of 145MW CCGT plant under the second phase
