Sheffield Resources Ltd (SFX) is undertaking the development of Dampier heavy mineral sands (HMS) mine in Western Australia, Australia.
The project involves the construction of a surface open pit Ilmenite, Leucoxene and Zircon mine with a production capacity of 12.2MTPA of ore. It includes the construction of a wet concentrator plant, a mineral separation plant, internal and haul roads, a borefield, 16MW power station, communications facilities, waste and recycling facilities, administration offices, storage yards, workshops, a medical facility, 140-person worker accommodation camp and other related infrastructure.
ATC Williams Pty Ltd has been appointed as geotechnical consultant, RJ Robbins and Associates Pty Ltd, Engineering and Project Management Services (EPMS), Optiro Pty Ltd, Entech Pty Ltd, RCR Mining Pty Ltd, Resource Engineering Group Inc and Quantitative Group Pty Ltd as engineering consultants, Robbins Metallurgy Pty Ltd., Ecologia Environmental Consultants Pty. Ltd., GR Engineering Services Limited, QG Pty Ltd., and Pennington Scott Pty Ltd as environmental consultants, Northwind Resources Pty Ltd as financial advisor, TZMI Pty Ltd, Resource Engineering and Design Pty Ltd and Hatch Pty Ltd (BFS) as study consultants.
In April 2014, a scoping study was completed.
In September 2014, SFX submitted a mining lease application.
In May 2015, SFX completed a pre-feasibility study.
On March 2, 2016, SFX appointed Hatch Pty Ltd to conduct a bankable feasible study.
On July 4, 2016, the environmental scoping document was approved by Western Australian Environmental Protection Authority (WA EPA).
In October 2016, a bankable feasibility study (BFS) was completed.
On January 10, 2017, the public environmental review (PER) was approved by WA EPA.
On January 16, 2017, PER is kept for public review for four weeks.
SFX awaiting necessary approvals for the project implementation. Subject to the approvals, construction works are scheduled to commence in 2017 with commissioning by 2018 and first production by 2019.
