PowerNET Developments (Pty) Ltd jointly owned by the South African Aurecon, PowerDev Investment groups, Matsete Investment Company and Enerwat Ltd are undertaking the Wind Farm near the diamond mine of Letseng La Terai, Maluti, Lesotho.
The project involves the construction of a wind power plant with an annual production capacity of 25 to 35MW.
PowerNET Developments (Pty) Ltd propose to erect 42 wind turbines each with a capacity of 850kW.
The project includes the installation of the wind turbines, construction of a power house and sub-stations, and the laying of transmission lines.
PowerNET has secured Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) with the Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC)
Gamesa has been appointed as EPC contractor for the project but the final contract agreement is yet to be made as the NETGroup is in the process of securing funds for the project development.
In February 2014, the project received approvals from Lesotho government.
Planning activities are underway.
