Australia's Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) is planning to undertake the construction of Kooragang Coal Terminal IV project in New South Wales, Australia.

The project involves the construction of a coal terminal with 70 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) in the initial stages of development and then increasing that to 120MTPA on 200ha of land.

It includes the construction of coal stockyards, rail facilities, marine side infrastructure facilities, a fourth dump station, a fourth ship loader, associated coal handling and transport infrastructure facilities and ship loading facilities.

Umwelt Australia Pty Ltd has been appointed as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant and KLJ Consulting Group Pty Ltd as lead consultant for the project.

On July 13, 2012, Aurecon Hatch was appointed as the engineering, procurement, construction and management (EPCM) contractor to undertake the feasibility study and EPCM work on the project.

In October 2013, PWCS submitted application to the NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

In July 2014, the project received environmental approval from NSW Department of Planning and Infrastructure.

On August 2014, public consultation process was completed for the project.

On December 16, 2014, the Planning Assessment Commission (PAC) has recommended approval for the project.

In October 2015, the project received an approval from New South Wales Planning Assessment Commission.

Edsico has been appointed as cost consultant.

On November 23, 2017, PWCS secured the approval for the site management plan and priority action statement from the NSW Department of Planning & Environment.

Pre-designing activities are underway.

Scope

The project involves the construction of a coal terminal with 70 Million Tons Per Annum (MTPA) in the initial stages of development and then increasing that to 120MTPA on 200ha of land in New South Wales, Australia.

The US$3,382 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a train dump station

2. Construction of associated rail infrastructure

3. Construction of a conveyor system

4. Construction of coal handling facilities

5. Construction of a rail loop

6. Construction of a stockyard

7. Construction of shipping berths

8. Construction of ancillary facilities
