In 2009, Devereux Architects was appointed as design architect.
In 2011, the project received planning permission from the Newcastle City Council.
Simpson & Brown Architects has been appointed as consultant to prepare historic assessment document, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners Ltd as planning consultant and Total Control Demolition as demolition contractor for the project.
The hotel will be operated by Dalata Hotel Group and the student accommodation complex will be handled by Unite Group Plc.
In May 2014, M&R submitted its revised plans to the Newcastle City Council.
In October 2015, project received planning approvals.
In May 2016, demolition works started at the project site.
In December 2016, demolition work completed.
Construction works are underway on the hotel and scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2019. Design activities on the student accommodation complex are underway.
