Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is undertaking the State Route 160 improvements SR 159 to Mountain Springs project in Clark County, Nevada, the US.
The project involves improvements, upgrades, and widening of the motorway along 18km of State Route 160 from two to four lanes. The project will be developed in two phases.
The first phase includes the improvements of 8km motorway from Red Rock Canyon junction to Mile Marker.
It includes the construction of a 4m wide median, a 2m wide bike lane, intersections in Mountain Springs, Mt. Potosi Canyon Road and Avery Street, and other related infrastructure.
The second phase includes the road improvements from Red Rock Canyon Road to Mountain Springs.
In May 2010, NDOT held a public hearing regarding the proposed project.
In June 2014, NDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHA), the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) addressing the potential environmental impacts of the project.
C A Group Inc has been appointed as project manager.
On July 8, 2014, NDOT held further public hearings on the improvements.
On August 12, 2014, BLM held a public meeting for the proposed road improvements on State Route 160 west from State Route 159 to Mountain Springs.
On December 14, 2015, Aggregate Industries SWR Inc has been awarded a contract worth of US$17 million for the first phase of the project. The scope of the project includes the work on state Route 160, which will widen the road from two lanes to four travel lanes between the Red Rock Canyon junction and Mile Marker 16.63.
Construction works on the first phase commenced in February 2016 and were completed in June 2017.
Planning activities on second phase are underway.
