Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) is undertaking the expansion of the existing Etihad Stadium in the UK.
The project involves the expansion of stadium of Etihad Stadium from the current 48,000 seat capacity to 61,000 seating capacity. The project is planned to be implemented in three phases.
The first phase includes the expansion of South Stand by 6,000 seats with the seating capacity rising from 48,000 seats to 54,000 seats. The works are due to be completed in time for the start of the 2015/16 Barclays Premier League season.
The second Phase includes the expansion of North Stand by 6,000 seats eventually taking the stadium to a capacity of around 60,000. The third phase will see the stadium's capacity reaching 61,000 seats.
The project includes the construction of a practice courts lounge, scoreboards, a training court, changing rooms, a parking facility and related infrastructure.
In February 2014, a planning application was submitted to the council. On February 13, 2014, the project secured approval from Manchester City Council.
In March 2014, Laing O’Rourke was appointed as EPC Contractor on the project and construction works on the first phase commenced.
Lateral Technologies & Solutions Ltd has been appointed as a design consultant for the first phase and Bedford Fabrications Ltd as the supply contractor.
In August 2015, construction works on the first phase completed.
As of January 2017, MCFC secured necessary approvals for the construction of second and third phases of the project.
Pre-construction works on the second and third phases are underway.
