Lamda Development (LD) and Global Investment Group (GIG) are planning to redevelop the former airport site of Hellenikon in Athens, Greece.
The Global Investment Group is an international investor consortium consisting of Chinese Fosun, the Eagle Hills based in Abu Dhabi and the Latsis Group.
The project will develop mixed-use facilities on 620ha of land that include the construction of six-star hotels, 5000 luxurious apartments, 200ha metropolitan park, shopping malls, office space, houses, art and culture museums, a casino, an aquarium, open cultural spaces, health and educational facilities, a research hub, parking and conference centers.
The project also include the construction of 1km wide and 50m long sandy beach near Agios Kosmas and an artificial wetland.
Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA) has been appointed as feasibility surveyor.
Foster + Partners has been appointed as architect, Charles Anderson Landscape Architecture Inc and Doxiadis + - Architect as landscape architect, ARUP as Technical Consultant, Enveco S.A. as environmental consultant, LDK Consultants and TEKEM SA as Consulting Engineers, PRC Engineers as Consulting Engineers (Infrastructure), Denco Transportation Studies Ltd as Consulting Engineers (Transportation), Denco Consulting Engineers SA as Consulting Engineers for Port works, ASPA Design as planning consultant, Dromos Consulting as master planner and Alexandros N. Tombazis and Associates Architects as architect and GEOTOPOS S.A as survey consultant for the project.
On June 7, 2016, a MoU was signed between the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund SA, HELLINIKON Global I SA and Lamda Development SA amending the terms of the existing sale and long-term lease agreement signed in November 2014, however following a series of planning consultations LD received MoU approvals from Greek Parliament in September 2016.
GIG submitted the Integrated Development Plan to the Athens City Council in the fourth quarter of 2016.
LD is in the process of obtaining necessary approvals (viz the project’s legal proceedings, town planning, environmental terms) and funding for the project development. The final approvals for the project are expected by the end of 2017. Subject to approvals and funding, construction on the project is anticipated to commence in the first quarter of 2018.
