Hammerson plc (HMSO) and Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (GIC) are jointly undertaking the Expansion of Watermark WestQuay Expansion project in Southampton, the UK.

The project involves the construction of 88,500m2 mixed-use facility and being developed in two phases. It includes the construction of new public plaza, park, multiplex Cinema de Lux, by National Amusements, new cafes and restaurants.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of a landmark 10 screen cinema, 20 restaurants and shops alongside a major high quality public piazza.

The second phase of the project includes the construction of a 27 story residential tower with up to 240 apartments, restaurants, shops, a hotel, an underground car park, offices and public spaces.

Turley Associates has been appointed as lead consultant, Nabarro LLP as legal adviser, Grant Associates as landscape designer, Barton Wilmore as planning adviser, Acme as planner and architect; and Gleeds as PMC contractor for the project.

In June 2014, project received detailed planning application for the first phase from the Southampton City Council.

On December 12, 2014, Sir Robert McAlpine was appointed as the construction contractor for the project.

In January 2015, demolition activities commenced and was completed.

On March 17, 2015, ground breaking ceremony held on the project.

In February 2017, construction works on first phase was completed.

Planning activities on the second phase are underway.
