The State government of Santa Catarina (GoSC) is planning to undertake the construction of a dam over the Itajaí-Mirim river with water storage capacity of 20 million m3 in Botuvera, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
The project involves the construction of a 3.5km long roller-compacted concrete wall of 40m-height and 16.6m-depth, a 1.65MW power plant, spillways, head-race and tailrace tunnels, shafts and access roads, and the installation of gates and dam controlling systems.

In February 2017, A compromise agreement was signed between the state government, the Ministry of the Environment and ICMBio regarding environmental licensing for the construction of the Botuverá dam.
In May 2017, IBAMA authorized by signing a technical cooperation agreement with the Fundação do Meio Ambiente de Santa Catarina (Fatma) to delegate the environmental licensing of the works of the Botuverá Dam.
As of now, Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade (ICMBio) is analyzing the environmental impacts of the dam in the Serra do Itajaí National Park, to give clearance to FATMA for issuing an environmental license.
The developers are waiting for the environmental approvals expecting them in 2018 and planning to launch a tender in the second half of 2018.
