Finnpulp Oy (Finnpulp) planning to construct a softwood pulp mill in Kuopio, Finland.
The project involves the construction of a pulp mill on 90ha of land with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (MTPA) of northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp and produces 60,000TPA of tall oil and 1,000,000MWh of bio-fuel based electricity.
It includes the construction of a captive power plant, wastewater treatment plant, warehouses, processing units and the installation of machinery.
Poyry Finland Oy has been appointed as the environmental consultant.
In February 2014, a feasibility study was completed.
On June 15, 2015, Finnpulp commenced Environmental impact assessment (EIA) report and completed in December 2015.
In April 2016, Finnpulp applied for the environmental permit.
On September 5, 2016, Kuopio city council accepted the plans to build the bio-production facility.
In March 2017, Finnpulp received environmental permits from the Regional State Administrative Agency (RSAA).
Finnpulp is in negotiations with investors and simultaneously proceeding with basic plant design. Finnpulp is expecting the final investment decision to be finalized by the fourth quarter of 2018.
