Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc (Elevance) and Genting Plantations Berhad through Genting Integrated Biorefinery Sdn Bhd (Genting) are planning to construct a Lahad Datu Metathesis Biorefinery complex in Sabah, Malaysia.
The project involves the construction of a biorefinery with a production capacity of up to 240,000 Tonnes Per Annum (TPA). It includes the construction of distillation units, processing units, storage facilities, an administrative building, treatment facilities, and the installation of machinery, safety and security systems.
In July 2014, Elevance and Genting entered into a joint venture for the development of the project. Under the terms of agreement, Genting will pay Elevance the license and design fees, and Elevance will provide intellectual property rights, knowledge transfer, and technical and consulting services.
Green Plant Organic Fertilizer Sdn Bhd was appointed as contractor on a build-operate-transfer basis.
Construction works are underway and expected to complete in 2018.
