Eaton Place Pty Ltd (EPP) is planning to undertake the construction of the Hummock Hill Island development project in Queensland, Australia.
The project involves the construction of an integrated tourism, recreational and residential community for tourists and permanent residents on 1,163ha of land.
The project includes the construction of a 150m bridge to the mainland, 18-hole golf course, an airstrip, two boat ramps, a desalination plant, 790 residential allotments, two hotels, a conference center and a motel, holiday accommodations, camping grounds, a commercial centre and a retail centre.
The project also includes the construction of related facilities such as roads, power, water, waste treatment, gas and sewerage.
Around 60% of the residential properties will be holiday homes or apartments and 20% will be for people pursuing employment or business opportunities servicing the tourism markets and the balance 20% will be for permanent residents from the Gladstone and neighboring locales.
ML Design has been appointed as master planner and landscape architect, Dockside Developments as project management and marketing consultant.
GHD has been appointed for preparation of environmental impact statements (EIS), environmental and planning approvals for the project. SKM as to undertaken the environmental studies, Cardno as to provide infrastructure services and Archaeo as heritage management consultant.
Phillips Fox has been appointed as legal advisor, Qasco as surveyor and Coastal Engineering Solutions as coastal engineer.
The environmental ministry rejected the environmental application of the project in June 2011.
Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Ltd (GAPDL) resubmitted the project to the Federal Government to reconsider its opposition for the project in July 2011.
In June 2014, Environmental impact statement (EIS) process has been completed.
In November 2015, tourism ministry has approved the project which was being opposed by Gladstone Conservation Council due to environmental issues.
The project is waiting for final approval from the state government and Council. The Coordinator-General extended the currency period for the EIS Evaluation Report from May 28, 2017 to May 28, 2019.
